Turkish pavilion... at Expo 2015 Milano !!!

Concept

Turkey, the homeland of agriculture, has had quite a peculiar place in farming and nutrition thanks to the amalgamation of its geography, climate, nature and its culture identified with the charity of its people for centuries. Our theme, centered around the teachings and experiences of a 12.000-year-long history, is embodied through the fruit of pomegranate. As one of the richness of Turkey in agriculture, “Nar”, Turkish for pomegranate, inherently represents diversity within unity. “Nar” is both singular and plural, and the symbol of fertility and abundance in the world. It has come to be associated with positive attributes in many cultures and religions. “Nar” encompasses each and every one of our values and, through its very nature, is ready to share with the rest of the world.

Our theme “DIGGING INTO HISTORY FOR FUTURE FOOD”, inspired by the opulent and abundant attributions of “Nar”, is inlaid and displayed in the entire architectural and contextual design and formation of the Turkish Pavilion.

Architecture & Design

Turkish Pavilion consists of 3 main divisions of indoor, semi-outdoor and outdoor venues on a total area of 4.170-square-meter, which includes 7 semi-outdoor distinct chambers.

Of these chambers, 5 are designed for theme-related events and the remaining two as a Turkish restaurant and a boutique of souvenirs.

The main entrance of the Pavilion is on the outdoor area, where a perforated roof is crowned with a modern interpretation of the 'Seljuki Star' made of steel. In the whole architectural design, our values are reflected through fountains, stones, world-famous Turkish traditional house, Turkish glasswork 'Çeşm-i Bülbül' and special patterns belonging to the Turkish culture.

Restaurant, Tea Garden and Coffee

At the outdoor area of our pavilion, there exists such an authentic space where the visitors can enjoy Turkish Tea and Turkish Coffee under the shadow of plane trees just next to the famous Ottoman fountain. Besides, Bazaar, Kiosks and Anatolian Food Table are also available at the outdoor area, which hosts periodic exhibitions and workshops with ingenious touches on the specialties of Turkish history and culture.

The design of the semi-outdoor division of the pavilion, which opens to a court which is reserved for cultural events, receptions, shows and performances, is inspired by our vaults and caravanserais.

The indoor division consists of an office building that reflects the form and style of our world-famous traditional houses.

Library

The library includes both hardcopy and digital books on food and nutrition in Turkish history, Turkey’s agricultural policies, food aid programs in the world as well as national food bulletins, presentations on nutritionally more sustainable world and other printed materials about nutrition and food.
