Baklava celebration at EXPO Tower

EXPO Tower, the 101-meter landmark structure of EXPO 2016 Antalya, is now completed after the last section of concrete was applied. Levent Murat Danışman, Deputy General Secretary responsible for project and construction for the EXPO 2016 Antalya Agency, climbed to the top of the tower and celebrated with workers in the traditional Turkish manner by distributing baklava. Danışman said: "Now we will apply the outer coating and raise the observation terraces."

The main frame of the tower, know as Turkey's Eiffel Tower, was completed by 10 employees working in shifts 24 hours a day. The foundation was laid in September after the contract was awarded last June. The project will make use of a new construction technique for the first time in Turkey: The Observation Terrace will be raised to the top of the tower on a special rail system after being constructed on the ground. Reaching 13.4 meters under the ground and 100.7 meters above the ground, EXPO Tower has a total length of 114.1 meters and 63 visitors will be able to climb at the same time with three elevators.
